are you someone who struggles with your sinuses? stress? sickness? headaches? allergies? irritation? if so, maybe a himalayan salt lamp can help you.
what is a salt lamp?
salt lamps are large chunks of himalayan salt with a small light bulb inside. depending on style, some lamps can be large, solid pieces of salt or decorative baskets filled with small pieces of salt. do note that it is very important to buy a salt lamp that is made from pure, food grade himalayan salt and not some cheap, knock-off version. the salt lamp i have is hand carved and made from 100% pure salt. you can find it here!
what do salt lamps do?
where do you feel most refreshed? is it when you are immersed in a forest, at the heart of a wooded mountain, lounging on the beach, sitting by a waterfall, listening to a storm, or sniffing the rain? if yes, then you feel most relaxed when negative ions are at work. when turned on, salt lamps emit negative ions into the air. negative ions, like i mentioned above, occur in natural situations such as thunderstorms, sunlight, waterfalls, and ocean waves. those negative ions are why most people feel so refreshed and relaxed after experiencing those events.
positive ions, on the other hand, are created by microwaves, computers, t.v.s, cellphones, and vacuum cleaners. they often produce problems like allergies, stress, and sleep trouble. at night, our rooms and homes are filled with phones, t.v.s, microwaves, laptops, computers, vacuums, and other things of that nature. we need some negative ions to balance out those positive ions. negative ions can neutralize positive ions when they bond together, which will ultimately cleanse the air we live in and greatly improve our quality of life.
benefits of negative ions (scientifically proven!)
- give higher alertness
- decrease drowsiness
- give mental clarity
- increase flow of oxygen to brain
- protect against germs in the air
- decrease irritation
- clear the air of mold spores, pollen, pet dander, odors, smoke, bacteria, viruses, dust, etc
- help us breathe lighter and freer
- get rid of headaches, allergies, and symptoms
- improve function of cilia in your respiratory tract that protect your lungs from irritation and inflammation
- normalize your breathing rate
- extremely effective at treating s.a.d. (seasonal affective disorder- a type of depression related to the change of seasons)
- improve energy & focus levels
- help us sleep better
so, are salt lamps the best option?
i say yes. there are machines you can buy that will produce negative ions, but himalayan salt lamps are a cheaper and prettier option. i love them for their warm, radiant glow and raw, crystalline look. depending on the size and style you purchase, you can get them for low prices. i think they compliment any room and add a very soothing energy to wherever they are. having a salt lamp has definitely cleansed the air in my room.
